From Darkness… Into His Marvelous Light

From Darkness… Into His Marvelous Light

Where Did God Pull You From?

Every one of us was rescued from somewhere. There's no believer without a past. There's no saint without a story. Some of us were pulled out of open, obvious sin. Others were pulled out of religious pride. But all of us — every single one — came out of darkness.

The problem isn't that you were ever in the dark. The problem is refusing to admit it. Because until you're honest about where you were, you'll never truly appreciate where God has brought you. This is an invitation to remember with gratitude, not guilt. To look up, not down. To acknowledge that the darkness was real — but the light is even more real.

Life Without Christ: Existing in the Shadows

The apostle Paul doesn't sugarcoat it. He says we were under the dominion of darkness (Colossians 1:13) — governed by a fallen system, spiritually blind, enemies of God.

"For you were once darkness…" — Ephesians 5:8

But God… rescued us. He didn't just nudge us or talk us into it — He pulled us out.

The Transfer: From One Kingdom to Another

Colossians doesn't say we gradually made our way over to the other side. It says we were transferred. Just as God brought Israel out of Egypt with a mighty hand, He snatched us out of slavery to sin and placed us under a completely different rule — the kingdom of His Son.

"…into the kingdom of the Son he loves…"

That changes everything.

The Call: Live Like Someone Who's Been Transferred

God didn't save you so you'd keep walking in the shadows. You weren't rescued just to hold onto dark habits. You were brought into His marvelous light — and that's supposed to show.

"Follow God's example, therefore, as dearly loved children… walk in the way of love… for you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light." — Ephesians 5:1, 8

Not like someone straining to earn their way to heaven. But like someone who was pulled out of hell and walks every day in grateful wonder.

What If There's Still Darkness in Me?

There will be a process. We're still being transformed. But here's the difference:

You no longer belong to the darkness. Sin may still knock on your door, but it is no longer your master. Guilt may still scream at you, but it no longer defines who you are.

"You were once darkness… but now you are light in the Lord."

Never Forget Where God Pulled You From.

This isn't meant to make you ashamed of your past. It's meant to make you passionate about your Redeemer. Every tear, every addiction, every dark night of the soul — all of it was reached by a Light that never goes out. That Light has a name: Jesus. And He is still shining in your story.
